Great Sand Dunes Trip '11

Here are some pics from our recent trip to the Great Sand Dunes!

The tallest dunes in North America (just outside Alamosa) were impressive and despite some nearby forest fires causing a bit of smoky haze it was a nearly perfect trip. We were joined by our good friends and some of their extended family as well. The girls enjoyed playing in the warm trickling Medano Creek and playing in the sand. We even tried sledding some of the steeper dunes but Sarah was the only one able to maintain any momentum.
After several days spent at the dunes (and ruining our camera in the sand), we headed home- stopping at the alligator/ tilapia farm along the way. See the picture of Ellie holding a live baby gator! She earned a 'bravery' certificate-specially embossed when the gator snapped his mouth shut on it!

We had such a great time on the trip, but unfortunately once we got back it was time for Ellie to have her tonsils removed. Everything went well, and she is recovering nicely. Other than her voice sounding a bit different (and grown-up) she'll be back to her ol' self in no time. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and well wishes!
