Summer Fun...

Summer feels kind of like a blur to us. It came, and now it's almost over. But, it seems like August has at least been a little more relaxing and low key. We decided several weeks ago to escape the heat and head up in elevation so we packed up the family and headed to Brainard Lake in the shadow of the Indian Peaks. Ellie had a great time practicing casting with her fishing pole and reeling in the bobber...notice we didn't say 'fish.'

We also took the girls to this year's National Night Out. Ellie still has a fascination with helicopters and really gets jazzed watching them take off. The rest of the time she spent climbing on emergency vehicles. She did spend some time in the police car and got finger printed. Hopefully that's her first and last experience with that.
To add to her 'badgirl' image- Ellie has been adding some colorful language to her vocabulary. Lately, "Aww Crap!" and "Holy Crap!" have been heard coming from her sweet lips.
When we ask her not to use that word, she sometimes breaks into a "crap, crap, crap..." song sung to the tune of "Baa Baa Black Sheep." We really can't understand where she picks up that crap.

Sarah is doing really well. It seems that she is mere seconds from crawling and even got a pseudo half-crawl working this morning. She is a voracious eater, and has developed a sizable rump as a result. That might be what's throwing off her balance during her crawl attempts. Ha!

Hey, Ellie and Sarah, I remember when I took your daddy to Brainard Lake for the first time! We had lots of fun, too, although we didn't do any bob-retrieving. Glad you had a good time.
